Can Tho Airport, known as Tra Noc Airport, was built in the 1960s. Before 1975, the airport was used as a military base by the former regime. After the liberation, Can Tho Airport was handed over to the Ministry of Defense for management.
Since 2005, Can Tho Airport has been included in the renovation project to upgrade it to Can Tho International Airport. After two phases of renovation and upgrading, Can Tho International Airport was inaugurated on January 1, 2011, serving civil flights for Can Tho City.
